There is probably some kernel of truth to all of them. But the fact remains; there is no original, single, totally accurate database of serial numbers from 1866 forward that we are aware of. But perhaps these pages can help you somewhat in your research.
Winchester 9422 Serial Number Lookup
Just wondering if there is a published list of the serial numbers for the Model 9422? The rifle has been out of production now for a decade and a half.One would think that who ever has the numbers, would release them after this much time.
Interesting ,tionesta1.Seems you can call Winchester and they will look up the serial number.It begs to offer the question of why, they do not just list the information some where,so all could look at it.Seems to me ,that would cut down on a lot of telephone calls and the use of company time spent looking up serial numbers.
I agree with you. I wish there were a book written about the 9422. There certainly are a lot of variations and special runs of them. They are well made solid guns. I have an early four digit serial number one new in the box. 2ff7e9595c
